The 2024 World Series was the championship series of Major League Baseball’s (MLB) 2024 season. In the National League Championship Series, they defeated the New York Mets in six games to win their 25th pennant in franchise history and return to the World Series for the first time since their championship season in 2020, and the fourth time in eight years (2017–2018, 2020, and 2024). The Dodgers were just the second team in MLB history to face the two New York baseball teams in a single postseason, following the 1999 Braves. The Philadelphia Phillies became the first team knocked out of the divisional round when the Mets closed out Game 4 at Citi Field to upset Philadelphia. Meanwhile, in the American League, the New York Yankees advanced to the ALCS, where they beat a Cleveland Guardians team fresh off an ALDS Game 5 win over the Tigers.

After Anthony Rizzo popped out, Volpe came to the plate with two outs looking for a fastball. But he recognized the spin on Hudson’s slider after striking out against him in Game 3 and pounced, igniting the building and altering the trajectory of the series.
Luis Gil stepped in earlier this season when Gerrit Cole started the season on the IL and pitched as well as anyone in the American League. He finished the season with a 15-7 record with a 3.50 ERA and a WHIP of 1.193. Most concerningly though for the Yankees is that he led the AL with 77 walks, which may be problematic for a patient Dodgers lineup.
Yankees: The eighth-inning rally in Game 4 was significant because it saved Luke Weaver (21 pitches) from having to return to the mound for the ninth, keeping him available for Game 5. Other relievers to appear in Game 4 were Tim Hill (five pitches), Clay Holmes (13 pitches), Mark Leiter Jr. (18 pitches) and Tim Mayza (15 pitches).
Almost a very costly mistake for the Yankees in the second. Anthony Volpe was on second base but somehow didn’t score on an Austin Wells double. Volpe was caught between tagging up and running as the ball was in the air before eventually settling at third.

Outlaws spends its first 10 hours or so introducing Kay and her salamander-cat-whatever partner, Nix; the story’s inciting incident (a heist in her home of Canto Bight that goes so phenomenally wrong it earns her a death warrant from a crime syndicate); and their resulting flight off-world to newer pastures. Kay steals an old but valuable ship called the Trailblazer during her escape and proceeds to crash it on Toshara, an inhabited moon in another part of the galaxy. The opening hours also introduce a number of major characters, all the core gameplay systems, and the variety of open-world activities you can get down to, before culminating in a quest to fix the Trailblazer’s hyperdrive. That upgrade opens up access to the rest of the planets in the game: icy Himalayas analog Kijimi, swampy jungle Akiva, and familiar desert hellhole Tatooine.

I’m a bit of a closeted Star Wars fan, you see. I’ve got adorable Grogu towels in my bathroom, but you’ll never find me dropping by my local card store to play Star Wars Unlimited. For me, the exciting thing about Star Wars is its limitlessness and variety; there are space witches, there’s the Sith, and myriad adorable creatures great and small to enjoy.
Lots of little details make this visit to the galaxy far far away one of the most memorable of the last couple of years, but these cities felt real in a way I’ve never experience before, teeming and lived in.
Now does that sense of wonder and magic excuse somewhat rocky traversal? No. Does it make up for the bizarre facial animations and guns dropping mid-cutscene? No. Does it account for that viral IGN clip of NPCs standing around doing nothing? No. Those are issues that really need to be ironed out ahead of launch. From what I’ve played, the gameplay is passable, and perhaps that’s enough.
